The World Rowing Federation (FISA) has announced they have signed a new partnership agreement with Italian-based IT services and solutions company Elmec Informatica.

Elmec have a strong relationship with the sport having been involved with the 2014 World Rowing Under-23 Championships, the 2013 World Rowing Masters Regatta and the 2012 European Rowing Championships, all of which were staged in the Italian city of Varese.

The new agreement will see the company continue to aid FISA in their efforts to reduce their environmental footprint, something which they assisted with during the three regattas.

They will also support FISA in the promotion, organisation and future development of the sport of rowing largely through state-of-the-art technology which will help improve their communications with its local organising committees and executive team.

“This new partnership both supports and complements FISA’s own environmental initiatives and on-going partnership for Clean Water with WWF, the World Wide Fund for Nature,” FISA executive director Matt Smith said.

"We have come to know and appreciate the good work done by Elmec over three World Rowing regattas in Varese.

“Elmec’s name and logo will be seen on televised banners at all our World Rowing regattas and together, we will prepare a ‘living’ case study to explain and show how their knowledge and experience can also help other sports to reduce their impact on the environment.”

The partnership was also hailed by Elmec partner Alessandro Ballerio, who says one of the company’s main aims is to protect the environment, meaning the two organisations are a good match.

“Based in Varese, also the home of one of rowing’s most beautiful rowing lakes, we place great value on protecting our environment,” he said.

“Our mission is to help other enterprises do the same, so that whatever their industry or purpose, their own footprint is minimised.

“Through our partnership with World Rowing, we will help to improve the efficiency of their global communications and event management operations.

“Elmec is proud to be the sustainable IT partner of World Rowing.”

The emphasis on the agreement remains on how the environmental impact can be reduced and comes after FISA extended its partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) until 2019 to promote clean water last year.

Since 2011, the two organisations have worked together to educate rowers and those who follow the sport about the importance of clean water to the global environment.
