Preparations for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games have been ramped up by the Saint Vincent and The Grenadines Olympic Committee (SVGOC) following a meeting of technical directors in Kingstown.

Taken place at Olympic House after being convened by SVGOC technical director, Tyrone James, the meeting was billed as a key opportunity for updates to be provided about the state of sport in the Caribbean nation.

It was also considered a platform to underline the involvement of the technical directors in the development of their respective sporting disciplines as well as of the Olympic Movement in the country.

This comes with little more than a year to go until the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where St Vincent will be keen to ensure a higher number of participants that the three athletes who attended London 2012.

SVGOC, formed in 1982 and recognised by the IOC in 1987, has competed at the last seven summer Games, but is yet to win a medal.

In London, Courtney Carl Williams competed over 100 metres and Kineka Alexander the women's 400m, while swimmer Tolga Akcayli was also present in the men's 50m freestyle competition, with all three exiting in their respective preliminary stages.

The nation also drew a blank at last summer's Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games but did win gold four year's earlier in Delhi courtesy of 100m star Natasha Mayers.

But St Vincent has seen success in an administrative sense in recent months after SVGOC secretary general Keith Joseph, was elected onto the ruling Executive Council of the Association of National Olympic Committees as a representative of the Pan American Sports Organization following a vote in Bangkok.
