SKY TV is the latest in a series of non-European networks to acquire broadcast rights for the multi-sport event, scheduled to take place from June 12 to 28.

But there is still no deal signed with a broadcaster in Russia, Europe's biggest country who are expected to finish top of the medals table at Baku 2015. 

The latest deal means that two dedicated 24-hour SKY Sport pop-up channels will carry exclusive footage of the Games across New Zealand for the duration of the event.

“This latest agreement with SKY TV confirms the broad appeal which the European Games hold for sport fans everywhere,” said Simon Clegg, Baku 2015 chief operating officer.

“I am delighted to be welcoming such a respected network to our family of broadcast partners, and am sure that viewers in New Zealand will enjoy the competitions next month.”

New Zealand joins a host of countries outside Europe which have signed up for coverage of the Games, including China, India, Australia and Japan.

“We’re constantly trying to offer our customers new and exciting sporting content, and the addition of Baku 2015 is a fine example of bringing innovative and different programming to SKY Sport,” said Richard Last, SKY TV’s director of sport.

Last week, Baku 2015 announced deals with Iran's General Entertainment and Media Television, as well as Croatia's Sportska Televizija and Radio Television of Serbia.

Confidence is still high that a broadcasting agreement will be reached in Russia, with Clegg telling insidethegames last month that negotiations are ongoing.
