In a move that taps into one of his great passions but which should not impose unduly on his overcrowded schedule, double Olympic gold medallist Sebastian Coe has been invited to join the Board of the Montreux Jazz Festival.

The British Olympic Association (BOA) chairman, currently running for the Presidency of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) against Sergey Bubka, the great Ukrainian pole vault champion, has an enormous collection of jazz records.

He famously spent the hours running up to London 2012’s winning presentation at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Singapore in 2005, in which he played a key role, listening to jazz.

The festival, founded in 1967, is held each July in the city of Montreux just along Lake Geneva from the Olympic capital, Lausanne.

François Carrard, a former IOC director general, is President of the Festival’s Administrative Committee.

Coe’s name was associated with a number of prominent posts prior to throwing his hat into the ring for the top job in world athletics last November.

These included most notably London Mayor and chair of the BBC Trust.

The IAAF vote is due to be held in Beijing on August 19, just ahead of this year’s World Athletics Championships.
