The Paralympic Foundation of Canada are seeking new volunteers to join its Board of Directors in order to increase the development of Paralympic sport across the country.

The body, part of the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC), are one of the key fundraising organisations and they also help with high-performance initiatives.

It is hoped the volunteers, who will be expected to serve four-year terms, will be comprised of a team of leaders with experience in various different sectors including fundraising, finance, sports, public relations and corporate governance.

Applicants have until July 10, the day on which the Pan American Games are due begin in Toronto, to register their interest and a Nomination Committee will then select those who are best suited for the job.

In order to be considered, those interested must be able to commit between two and four hours a month to the position and they should have the willingness to fundraise, whether it be on a personal level or the ability to influence others to donate.

They must also have a clear understanding and passion for Paralympic sport, as well as the activities of the CPC and the Paralympic Foundation of Canada.

Other desirable qualities include strategic planning and senior management in the public, private and non-profit sectors, and the Paralympic Foundation of Canada hope to have as wide a range of skills and abilities as possible among the Board.

The recruitment drive forms part of the CPC’s strategy to become the leading the world's leading Paralympic nation.

They have a long way to go to reach their target, however.

Canada won seven gold medals at the London 2012 Paralympic Games in an overall haul of 31, which also included 15 silvers and nine bronze, to finish 20th overall.
