Four athletes have been selected by Archery Canada to represent the host nation at next month’s Parapan American Games here in Toronto, with Kevin Evans to lead their medal bid in the compound events.

Evans is a two-time world champion and also claimed the men's compound gold four years ago at the Parapan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The 52-year-old is excited by the prospect of competing in front of a home crowd at the Games, which are set to be held from August 7 to 15, and believes the archery team are well prepared to challenge for medals.

"To represent Canada in a multi-sport event is one thing but to be able to do this on home soil is a dream come true," he said.

"I know I, along with the rest of our team, have been training endlessly to be able to represent our country and our sport to the best of our ability at these Games."

Evans is joined in the team by Robert Hudson, who finished in second place behind his teammate four years ago, and five-time Paralympian Alec Denys, who recently ended his retirement from the sport.

The only woman on the four-person team is Karen van West, who despite appearing in four Paralympic Games is set to make her debut at the multi-sport event next month.

"The Para-archery team for the Parapan Am Games is a solid group of veteran athletes with podium finishes achieved at previous Parapan Am Games and World Championships," said Scott Ogilvie, executive director of Archery Canada.

"Our athletes are looking forward to the opportunity to represent Canada on home soil in Toronto.

“The Games are also an excellent preparation for the World Championships later this summer where our athletes will have the opportunity to earn 2016 Paralympic quota spots."

The archery competitions are set to be held in Varsity Stadium between August 9 and 10, with fans still able to purchase tickets for the events online via the Toronto 2015 website here.
