Hosts Rwanda moved to the top of the standings in the women’s ParaVolley Africa Sitting Volleyball Championships thanks to a 3-1 victory against the previously unbeaten Egypt in Kigali.

Having lost to Kenya yesterday, Rwanda's win was much-needed to prevent Egypt from pulling away at the summit.

Defeat for Egypt also gave Kenya an opportunity to make up ground, and they did so with a 3-0 success against Burundi.

In the one other men's match, the Democratic Republic of Congo picked up their second victory at the expense of winless Uganda.

It all means that with one round of group games remaining, Egypt, Rwanda and Kenya are all level on three wins out of four, followed by the Democratic Republic of Congo in fourth place.

Tomorrow’s action is due to see Egypt play Burundi before Rwanda face the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya meet Uganda.

Unlike in the women’s competition, Egypt managed to preserve their perfect record in the men’s tournament with a 3-0 win against Algeria.

Rwanda recovered from their defeat to Egypt yesterday to claim a 3-0 victory against Kenya, whom they moved level with on three wins from four in the process.

Elsewhere, Burundi overcame the Democratic Republic of Congo 3-0 to get themselves off the mark after three losses.

Egypt will be aiming to make it five wins out of five tomorrow when they face Kenya.

The match comes after Rwanda’s clash with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Algeria’s meeting with Burundi.

The Championships in Kigali act as a qualifier for next year's Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The winner of the men’s and women’s tournaments, due to end on Tuesday (July 28), will earn tickets to Brazil.
