Russia were able to claim double gold in the final athletics field events, as Elizaveta Bondarenko delivered a stunning performance to earn the girl’s pole vault title by achieving a new personal best of 4.20 metres.

It saw her break the EYOF record of 4.10m, which was also surpassed by Sweden’s Lisa Ulrika Gunnarsson, who finished second after a clearance of 4.15m.

Ilia Tuzov earned Russia’s second athletics gold of the day by throwing 69.67m in the boy’s javelin final, and he was joined on the podium by Latvia’s Matiss Velps and Croatia’s Bartul Zemunik, after they achieved throws of 66.21m and 65.32m respectively.

On the track, Croatia’s Marino Bloudek claimed victory in the boy’s 800m final after he crossed the line in 1min 53.76sec, having beaten Belgium’s Elliott Crestan in a sprint finish.

Malin Edland came home in 2:07.43 to take gold in the girl’s event, which was one of two gold medals for Norway on the track as their girl’s 4x100m team held off the challenge of France to win in 46.54, finishing 0.13 seconds ahead of their rivals.

Despite their disappointment in the girl's race, France were not to be denied in the boy's event as Luc Betrand, Simon Boypa, Marc-Antoine Saban and Florian Barbier clocked 42.11 to clinch gold, ahead of Spain and Slovakia, who earned silver and bronze respectively.

The hosts nation have enjoyed success in judo throughout the Games but were left with only a bronze medal in the heavyweight finals as Gela Zaalishvili fell to defeat in the boy’s over 90 kilograms semi-finals.

Austria’s Stephan Hegyi would go on to claim gold in the division after he overcame Ukraine’s Vladyslav Berezka in the final, while Italy’s Annalisa Calagreti defeated Israel’s Raz Rozaly Hershko in the girl’s over 70kg final.

Axelle Klinckaert proved to be the star at the New Gymnastics Venue as the Belgian athlete secured gold medals in both the girl’s beam and floor finals, while the boy’s all-round champion, Joe Fraser of Great Britain, scored 14.600 points to win the parallel bars final.

Several team sport finals also took place including volleyball, where Turkey earned a 3-2 victory over Serbia in the girl’s competition, while Poland claimed a straight-sets win over Bulgaria in the boy’s final.

The boy’s handball final proved to be a dramatic affair as France and Slovenia battled it out for gold, with the French side eventually emerging as 30-28 winners, while Russia earned top honours in the girl's tournament after overcoming Denmark.

Basketball competitions also reached a conclusion at the Vere Palace with Bosnia and Herzegovina taking gold in the boy’s final after an 89-79 victory over Spain, while the girl’s final was a lower scoring match as Czech Republic defeated Belgium 52-33.

Following the completion of competition, the athletes headed to the Closing Ceremony at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium, which saw the official handover of the EYOF to the 2017 host city, Győr in Hungary.

It followed the European Olympic Committees vice-president Janez Kocijancic declaring the 2015 edition closed as he praised the athletes who participated in Tbilisi.

"You the athletes of this Festival have begun your Olympic careers," he said.

"Treasure this experience and use it as a springboard to achieve ever greater things in the years to come.

"You have performed to the highest levels and no doubt will in the years to come perform with distinction at future Olympic Games.

"You are a great credit to your countries."
