Spitz, who has spent recent years as an author and freelance communications consultant for bodies including the German sports lottery, has much experience in the sports world.

Between 2007 and 2010 she worked at the National Anti-Doping Agency, serving as head of communications before becoming deputy managing director in 2008.

She also served as head of press and public relations at networking agency Generationen Netzwerk für Deutschland between 2010 and 2012.

The 59-year-old will replace Christian Klaue, who has served at the DOSB since 2009 and has been widely praised for his head of media and public relations work since he succeeded Gerd Graus soon after his arrival.

Klaue is due to take up a new communications post with the International Olympic Committee, where he will focus towards facilitating the increased demand for coverage of the Olympic Movement from German-speaking countries, although his full responsibilities are yet to be finalised.

He will also revive his relationship with Thomas Bach, the former DOSB chief now President of the IOC.

Spitz is scheduled to officially take up the DOSB position on September 1.
