Hill claims maiden ISFF World Cup Final title as Britain earn both titles on opening day in Nicosia

Amber Hill secured her first International Shooting Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final title as British shooters claimed both golds on the first day of competition in Nicosia.

Hill, winner of the gold medal at the inaugural European Games in Baku in June, advanced to the gold medal contest in the women’s skeet event after both she and Thailand’s Sutiya Jiewchaloemmit hit all but one of their targets in the qualification phase.

The 18-year-old Briton was able to replicate her performance in the final in the Cyprus capital, successfully hitting 15 targets with only one blip.

Jiewchaloemmit, the three-time Asian champion, missed two of the first eight targets and ended up three shots behind the winner.

“It’s been a hell of a year for me,” she said.

“I had a bit of a rocky ride at the start, because I really don’t have much experience in this sport.

“I started back in 2013, so I’ve only been competing for Great Britain for a few years, but it’s been an incredible few years for me, this really ends my year the perfect way.”

The bronze medal match was also a high-quality affair as both the United States Morgan Craft and home favourite Andri Eleftheriou both hit all 16 targets, but the Cypriot crowd were left disappointed as Craft claimed victory in a tiebreak.

Britain’s Steven Scott ensured his country ended with double gold, claiming the men’s double trap title, 12 years on from his last success at the World Cup Final.

That victory also came at the Olympic Shooting Centre in Nicosia and the 30-year-old moved a step closer to repeating the feat, hitting 29 of the 30 targets to reach the final.

China’s Qing Pan matched the Briton to secure at least silver but inconsistency ended his hopes of taking the gold as he ended the final with only 25 targets hit, two behind Scott.

Asab Mohd prevented another British shooter from reaching the podium after the Indian produced a faultless performance to win bronze as he hit all 30 targets, while his rival Tim Kneale managed only 27.
