A new website has been launched by the National Olympic Committee of Armenia (NOCA)  to better publicise sporting achievements and information in the Caucasus nation.

The website, accessable here, contains news about sporting events in Armenia and performances by local athletes internationally, as well as details of upcoming competetions, including next year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Detailed information and pictures of the NOCA leadership is also included, such as of the body's President Gagik Tsarukyan, and of past Armenian sporting champions.

It is usable in Armenian, English and Russian languages.

"Our task was to upgrade the official website of the National Olympic Committee since the old version did not meet modern requirements,” said NOCA secretary general Hrachya Rostomyan.

It is now hoped reporters will cover major sporting events such as World and European Championships for the website directly from the scene.

National Olympic Committees around the world have been urged to improve their websites in recent years as part of a drive to facilitate better communications.

This latest initiative follows a special event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of NOCA in Yerevan earlier this month attended by Association of National Olympic Committees President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah and European Olympic Committees counterpart, Patrick Hickey.

A new headquarters for the organisation was opened in capital city Yerevan.

Armenia has won 12 medals at the Olympic Games since first competing as an independent nation at the Lillehammer 1994 Winter edition, including gold for Greco Roman wrestler Armen Nazaryan during the country's summer debut in Atlanta in 1996.
