Georgia’s Davit Loriashvili won the men’s 100 kilogram title on day two of the World Sambo Championships here, denying Russia a clean sweep of gold medals from the five finals they were represented in.

Loriashvili scored a point in the dying seconds of his encounter with Dmitriy Eliseev to secure a 2-1 victory and condemn his opponent to the runners-up spot.

Ukraine’s Yaroslav Rytko and Belarus' Yauhen Siomachkin came away with the weight category’s bronze medals.

Earlier in the evening, Eliseev’s compatriot Anna Shcherbakova was the first of four Russians to claim top honours, cruising to a 7-0 triumph against Belarus' Tatsiana Matsko in the final of the women’s 64kg class, which saw Ukraine’s Olena Sayko and Mongolia’s Battugs Tumenod share third place.

Shcherbakova was followed by Azamat Sidakov, who found himself trailing Azerbaijan’s Amil Gasimov for a lengthy spell in their men’s 74kg showdown before eventually winning 9-4 to top a podium also featuring Belarus' Stsiapan Papou and Georgia’s Desarion Berulava.

Russia’s third gold medal could not have come any more comfortably as combat men's 82kg finalist Alexey Ivanov claimed top honours after establishing an eight-point advantage in no time at all against Kyrgyzstan’s Samat Zhanybek Uulu, who had to settle for silver.

Ukraine’s Maksym Ryndovskyi and Uzbekistan’s Sanjar Nematov won the bronze medals.

Kirill Sidelnikov extended Russia’s overall gold medal tally to eight in the last final of the day, overcoming South Korea’s Sangsoo Lee 7-1 to take the combat men’s over 100kg title.

Ukraine’s Dymytrii Poberezhets was one of the two bronze medallists, along with Bulgaria’s Martin Marinkov.

Vakhtangi Chidrashvili preceded the success of fellow Georgian Loriashvili by narrowly beating Tajikistan’s Akmaliddin Karimov to the men’s 57kg crown with Russia’s Aimergen Atkunov and Belarus' Uladzislau Burdz taking the bronze medals.

There were also gold medals for Ukraine’s Mariia Buiok, a 2-1 victor against Kazakhstan’s Gauhar Turmakhanova in the women’s 52kg final, and Bulgaria’s Veselin Ivanov, who fended off a late rally from Trinidad and Tobago’s Joash Walkins to win the combat men’s 62kg final, 4-2.

The women’s 52kg bronze medals went to Belarus' Maryna Zharskaya and Russia’s Anna Kharitonova, while the third step of the combat men’s 62kg podium was shared by Ukraine’s Serhii Bobyr and Kyrgyzstan’s Orozbek Abtandil Uulu.

Belarus' Sviatlana Tsimashenka was awarded the women’s 80kg gold medal by default after her scheduled opponent, Bulgaria’s Mariya Oryashkova, pulled out of the final due to injury.

Russia’s Natalia Kazanseva and Georgia’s Irine Leonidze were the weight division’s bronze medallists.

After two days of action, Russia’s tally of eight gold medals puts them six clear of Bulgaria, Georgia and Ukraine with two apiece.

An additional nine sets of medals are due to be handed out on the final day of the Championships tomorrow with the women’s 56kg, 68kg and over 80kg categories taking centre stage, along with the men’s 62kg, 82kg and over 100kg, and combat men’s 52kg, 68kg and 90kg.
