Anastasia Valova set the tone for another evening of Russian dominance, winning the women’s 56 kilogram final against France’s Laure Fournier who was followed onto the podium by Belarus’ Anastasiia Arkhipava and Romania’s Daniela Hondiu.

Russia’s second gold medal came courtesy of Olga Zakharcova, who defeated Georgia’s Nino Odzelashvili 3-1 in the final of the women’s 68kg category, and another hat-trick was complete when Anna Balashova edged Georgia’s Elene Kebadze in the women’s over 80kg class.

The women’s 68kg bronze medals went to Finland’s Johanna Ylinen and Kazakhstan’s Dildash Kuryshbayeva, while Belarus’ Yelizaveta Maiseyenka and Cameroon’s Diodjo Wetio shared the third step of the women’s over 80kg podium.

Artem Osipenko made it four golds for Russia after overcoming Tajikistan’s Nabimukhamad Khorkashev by arm lock in the men’s over 100kg final before compatriot Vyacheslav Vasilevskiy rounded off another memorable Championships for his nation, taking the combat men’s 90kg title after quickly establishing an eight-point advantage against Bulgaria’s Mariyan Dimitrov.

The men’s over 100kg bronze medals were won by Belarus’ Yury Rybak and Georgia’s Beqa Berdzenishvili, while Kyrgyzstan’s Zhanybek Amatov and France’s Sebastien Libebe had to settle for third spot in the combat men’s 90kg category.

There could have been even more gold medals for the Russians this evening had it not been for the endeavours of Kazakhstan and Moldova, who between them topped three podiums at the expense of Russia.

Kazakhstan’s Almas Suleimenov beat Amyr Bakrasov in the combat men’s 52kg final, while fellow countryman Arman Ospanov was favoured by the judges ahead of Rashad Muradov in the combat men’s 68kg final following a 1-1 tie.

Moldova’s Sergiu Oslobanu was also on the right end of a decision from the judges, winning the men’s 82kg final following a 3-3 draw with Ilya Kokovich.

The combat men’s 52kg bronze medals were claimed by Ukraine’s Sergii Chornyi and Uzbekistan’s Rakhmatjon Akhmedov, while third-place honours went to Lithuania’s Sergej Grecicho and Turkmenistan’s Abdylla Babayev in the combat men’s 68kg class.

Babayev’s compatriot Tejen Tejenov was one of the two men’s 82kg bronze medallists along with Ukraine’s Oleksii Nizhenko.

Belarus’ Ivan Aniskevich won the one other gold medal this evening, fending off the challenge of Azerbaijan’s Javidan Garayev to triumph 3-0 in the men’s 62kg final.

Uzbekistan’s Davlatjon Khamroev and Kazakhstan’s Yesset Kuanov came away with the weight division’s bronze medals.

Kazakhstan’s gold medal tally of three came closest to matching Russia’s 13, while Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia and Ukraine all finished on two each.

Russia also topped each individual medal table with five golds in women’s competition, four in men’s and four in combat men’s.

The three-day event ended with a short Closing Ceremony as the International Sambo Federation (FIAS) flag was passed to Roumen Stoilov, President of the Bulgarian Sambo Federation, by FIAS President Vasily Shestakov.

Bulgaria beat the United States to earn the hosting rights for next year's World Championships.
