Inclement weather conditions in Dubai meant action at the World Air Games was cancelled today.

As per the schedule, parachuting canopy piloting was among the disciplines planned at the Skydive Dubai dropzone along with aerobatics solo and synchro, rotorcraft parallel fender, control line combat model aircraft and semi-scale pylon racing model aircraft.

Strong winds and overcast conditions, however, meant the schedule had to be re-routed with the coditions not favourable for take-off and landing.

Ahmed Ben Younis, the World Air Games’ weather expert, remains confident there will be no delays in the completion of the various disciplines, despite no action going ahead.

"We have put a 'plan B' in place and you can be sure that all competitions will be completed as per the schedule," he said.

"When we were putting down the schedule for the Games we were aware that there were 20 to 30 per cent chances of the weather turning blustery with strong winds sweeping in.

"So we have made arrangements to ensure there are no changes in the schedule."

The predicted weather conditions for tomorrow are also bleak with winds and gusts expected to be going up to between 35 and 41 kilometres per hour throughout the day.

The United States currently lead the overall medal table with a total of 10 medals, including five golds, three silvers and two bronzes.

Leading the US domination is Curt Bartholomew and Nick Bachs as they have accounted for all five gold medals across various disciplines of canopy piloting.

Host nation the United Arab of Emirates are surprisingly the closest challengers in second place, largely due to Cornelia Mihai’s three medals, included a gold and two bronzes.

Mihai’s compatriot Abdulbari Qubaisi added a bronze medal after placing third in the freestyle canopy piloting yesterday.
