A successful judo coaching course has been carried out in Armenia.

Andrey Shturbabin, the head coach of the Uzbekistan team, carried out level two coaching and level three advanced/senior sessions in the country's capital Yerevan.

The lessons took place between December 14 and 20 and were Olympic Solidarity Courses.

Among the different subjects that were covered were new International Judo Federation rules, preparation for competitions and the tachi-waza and ne-waza techniques.

Shturbabin often took to the tatami to demonstrate his craft.

He said: “The seminar was good and everyone was really interested and had a lot of questions.

"One of the issues that was raised is that a limited number of judoka continue to practice when they reach the senior level.

"However, they have good judo schools for children, as well as cadets and juniors who are regularly training.

"Such kind of programs is important to increase the level of the coaches to reach a better level during international competitions.

"More seminars should be organised throughout the country.

"This would definitely have a positive impact on judo in Armenia.“

Armenia took two judokas to the London 2012 Olympics, with Hovhannes Davtyan narrowly missing out on a bronze medal in the men's under 60kg category after defeat in a repechage contest.

Armen Nazaryan reached the round of 16 in the men's under 66kg.
