Cortney Jordan, Jessica Long and Rebecca Meyers headline a 29-strong US Paralympics national swimming team for 2016.

The trio earned seven titles between them at the 2015 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships, which were held in Glasgow during July, and will be expected to be in the mix for medals at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Long, a 12-time Paralympic S8 gold medallist, was one of the stars of the American team at the World Championships having won three golds and three silver medals.

Meanwhile, Jordan, a S7 classification swimmer, claimed gold medals in the 100 metres and 400 metres freestyle races to take her overall tally of world titles to seven, while she also earned two silver and two bronze medals.

Meyers, who earned S13 class gold in the 200m individual medley and 400m freestyle at the Championships, will join both Long and Jordan in National Team A for 2016.

Hannah Aspden, McKenzie Coan, Michelle Konkoly, Martha Ruether, Elizabeth Smith, Elizabeth Wasil and Colleen Young complete the women’s selection.

The men’s selection consists of Tharon Drake, Tucker Dupree, Robert Griswold and Roy Perkins.

“We are in a great position for 2016, we have an accomplished group of swimmers to lead Team USA into the Paralympic year,” said Queenie Nichols, high performance director for US Paralympics Swimming.

“I’m always excited to see our decorated veterans return to the team, but it is especially gratifying to see so many of our young up and comers continually improving and being named to the national team.”

The team will be hoping to build upon their performances from Glasgow and their display at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games, where they earned a total of 32 medals.

Reilly Boyt, Brickelle Bro, Anna Eames, Alyssa Gialamas, Sophia Herzog, Anna Johannes, Letticia Martinez, Noga Nir-Kistler, Nelya Schasfoort and Mallory Weggemann have been selected to make up the women’s B-team.

Meanwhile, Evan Austin, Cody Bureau, Michael DeMarco, Ryan Duemler and Rudy Garcia-Tolson have been confirmed as the male members of the B-team, although further additions could be made throughout the year.

Following the selection, the team will begin their preparations for the Rio 2016 Paralympics by competing at the Jimi Flowers Classic from January 16 to 17 in Colorado Springs.

The swimmers will be aiming to book their spot on the team for Rio at the trials from June 30 to July 2, with cycling and athletics places also due to be confirmed in Charlotte, North Carolina.
