The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) is holding its 13th Executive Board meeting in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh this weekend, during which its newly-launched strategic plan is set to be discussed.

The plan for 2015 to 2018 was presented during last month’s ASEAN Para-Games in Singapore as the APC targets becoming one of the leading regions within the Paralympic Movement.

Developed in partnership with the International Paralympic Committee Academy, the plan attempted to incorporate feedback from the first edition of the APC Membership Gathering, which was held in the United Arab Emirates’ capital Abu Dhabi last May.

Discussions on the plan are due to take place today, with upcoming events such as Rio 2016, the Nanjing 2017 Asian Youth Para Games and the Jakarta 2018 Asian Para Games set to be reviewed.

"I am delighted to welcome my Executive Board colleagues from all over the region to drive forward the activities outlined in our new strategic plan," said APC President Majid Rashed on the eve of the meeting.

"With the Rio Paralympic Games on the horizon, our minds will be focused on how we can begin to fulfil our vision to make Asia one of the leading regions in the Paralympic Movement."

On Sunday (January 31), the Board is due to hear reports from the APC Standing Committees and sub regions before receiving a presentation from Sport for Tomorrow project manager Toshiyuki Okeya.

Sport for Tomorrow is an initiative of the Japanese Government, which aims to promote sport to more than 10 million people in 100 nations between 2014 and 2020.

The APC is being hosted by the National Paralympic Committee of Saudi Arabia, whose President Ahmad Almugairin will welcome the Board during a short Opening Ceremony.

All Board members are expected to be present, including Indonesia’s Faisal Abdullah, a representative of Jakarta 2018 who has recently been appointed the APC’s third vice-president.
