A specialised sports medicine and injuries clinic has been opened by Bahrain’s National Sports Medicine Centre in Isa Town.

The facility is the first of its kind for the Centre and was part of a Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) project.

By improving facilities and services, the BOC are hopeful that their athletes will benefit from having additional treatment options available to them, should they pick up any injuries.

Southern Governor and BOC board member Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa was present for the official opening of the clinic.

Shaikh Abdulla claimed the facility will boost the National Sports Medicine Centre, with its advanced technological equipment due to be available to athletes and the public.

He was joined by several key officials from Bahrain’s Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Health Ministry and the Education Ministry at the opening.

The clinic is due to be supervised by Dr Francisco Chapman, who has been working in sports medicine and injuries since 1992.

The Cuban has spent time working in India, Ethiopia and Algeria, before moving to Bahrain.
