The New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) has signed up leading real estate company Barfoot & Thompson as an Official Partner of its team for Rio 2016.

Barfoot & Thompson, New Zealand's largest privately owned, non-franchised company of its type, is said to have a long history of partnering with high-profile sporting events across rugby, triathlon and other international multi-sport events.

It was a naming rights partner to the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Series event in Auckland, which has been removed off this year's calendar, and remains a supporter of several rugby bodies, including Auckland Rugby.

"We are delighted Barfoot & Thompson has joined our team to help athletes inspire a nation at Rio 2016," said NZOC chief executive Kereyn Smith.

"They are a proud New Zealand company and I know they are going to get behind our athletes this August.

"The support of our commercial partners is critical in ensuring our success on the world stage."

Barfoot & Thompson managing director Peter Thompson added: "We are thrilled to be backing the New Zealand Olympic team in an official capacity.

"We have been inspired by the athletes’ accomplishments and dedication to reach such a pinnacle in sporting excellence, and by the many other Kiwis supporting their progress towards great things in Rio in just six months’ time.

"As a community-minded and goal-driven business, we feel an affinity with the team as they strive to achieve for New Zealand.

"Such drive and focus is something we celebrate."

Building on the company’s commitment, Barfoot & Thompson has launched a new campaign offering home sellers an opportunity to cheer on New Zealand’s athletes at Rio 2016.

Those who have listed their home with Barfoot & Thompson on or after January 1, 2016, and have sold unconditionally by May 31, will be in the draw to win a week-long trip to Rio de Janerio in August.

The prize includes return airfares, transfers, 4.5 star accommodation and an exclusive "Meet an Olympian" experience.

The winner will also receive two tickets for the Rio 2016 Opening Ceremony as well as the rowing, women’s rugby sevens and equestrian eventing competitions among others.

"So many everyday Kiwis are playing a part in inspiring our athletes with messages of support and encouragement, and this is a lucky winner’s chance to be there and cheer them on in person," added Thompson.

In August of last year, the NZOC launched a "Rio 2016 Be the Inspiration campaign" to coincide with One Year To Go celebrations until the Olympic Games.

Billed as a "powerful representation of the athletes' journey from New Zealand to the Olympic Games in Rio", the campaign is centred around an online digital hub.

As well as featuring words of inspiration and messages of good luck from New Zealanders both at home and overseas, the hub also showcases rare footage and video clips of some of the country's best Olympic successes throughout history.

New Zealand are seeking to improve on their 15th place finish at London 2012, where they won six golds in a 13-medal haul.
