Actor Will Ferrell appears in a new promotional film by Los Angeles 2024 as the city tries to harness the glamour of Hollywood to help its campaign to host the Olympics and Paralympics.

The two-time Golden Globe winner appears in a film that also includes Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, a double Olympic gold medallist.

Other Olympic gold medallists starring in the two-minute film which asks some of Los Angeles' most famous residents, "Where will you be in 2024?", are swimmer Janet Evans and diver Greg Louganis.

The film is due to released across the bid’s digital channels and as a movie trailer in select Regal Theaters in Southern California, including Regal LA Live Stadium 14 – located at the heart of Los Angeles 2024’s proposed Downtown Cluster.

The trailer is scheduled to premiere in theatres tomorrow evening as Los Angeles prepares to host the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday (February 28).

Coming a week after Los Angeles 2024 unveiled its logo and "Follow the Sun" slogan, the video captures the city's unique spirit of optimism and reinvention, bid leaders claimed.

“LA is a city that inspires dreamers and thrives on optimism," Casey Wasserman, the Los Angeles 2024 chairman, said.

"Our bid’s vision is as bold as the sun that nurtures our city every day and this new brand film perfectly showcases the culture of innovation shared by all Angelenos.

"Our bid, like our city, is based on relentless reinvention and new beginnings.

"We are united by a common goal - to help the Olympic Movement create a new Games for a new era.

"I hope this film inspires the world to 'Follow the Sun' to Los Angeles in 2024.”

Earlier today, a new poll commissioned by Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University showed that 88 per cent of citizens in the city supported the bid.

The new film also stars celebrity chef Roy Choi, best known as the creator of the gourmet Korean taco truck, Kogi, and Jessica Alba, an actress turned businesswoman and co-founder of The Honest Company, a consumer goods company that sells non-toxic household products.

They appear alongside Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Ezra French, who hopes to compete in the Paralympics.

“Our brand film highlights LA's incredible diversity, but more importantly, its spirit of unity," Evans, a four-time Olympic gold medallist and vice-chair of Los Angeles 2024, said.

"Latest polls show that 88 per cent of Angelenos are in favor of LA 2024, and we can see this support and passion for the Games come to life in our brand film.

"LA and Southern California are already home to over 1,000 Olympians and Paralympians.

"It is also inspiring to see the young Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls in this film sharing their own dreams.

"We hope they will be standing on the podium in Los Angeles in 2024.”
