The company have been a Worldwide Olympic Partner since 2014 and it will become a Tokyo 2020 Partner in the category of “Tires, Seismic isolation bearings & Non-motorized bicycles.”

As a Gold Partner, the highest level of domestic sponsorship, the company will work alongside Tokyo 2020 to provide additional support to their hosting of the Games.

“Bridgestone is already an active supporter of the Olympic Games in its capacity as a Worldwide Olympic Partner, and the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee is delighted that Bridgestone will also provide support to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games as a Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Gold Partner,” said Yoshirō Mori, President of Tokyo 2020. 

“This new addition will constitute a major boost to our efforts to promote the Paralympic Movement.”

The partnership with Bridgestone, who also manufacture industrial rubber, chemical products and sporting goods, takes Tokyo 2020 to 31 partners for the Paralympic Games.

Worldwide Olympic Partners Atos and Omega have already been signed up as Gold Partners.

There are a further 15 Gold Partners, while 13 have sealed agreements with Tokyo 2020 to become official partners of the Games.

Masaaki Tsuya, chief executive of Bridgestoe, claimed that the company share the same values at the Paralympic Movement after sealing the agreement.

“We are very proud to be able to contribute to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and Japan's national Paralympic team until 2020 as a Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Gold Partner,” he said.

“Bridgestone emphasizes a respect for diversity to achieve its commitment of becoming a truly global company.

“It is clear that Bridgestone and the Paralympic Movement share a common set of values, as the Paralympic Movement's ultimate aspiration is "To make for a more inclusive society for people with an impairment through para-sport."

“Bridgestone will support the journey of all individuals facing adversity who constantly strive to achieve their dreams by realizing our goals of providing “service to community,” “social responsibility” and “respect for diversity.”

The Paralympic Games in Tokyo are scheduled to take place from August 25 to September 6 in 2020. 

Their preparations received praise from International Paralympic Committee chief executive Xavier Gonzalez in January.

He claimed Tokyo 2020 were the “best prepared Organising Committee” at the four years to go stage.
