Lithuanian Olympic Committee (LTOK) President Daina Gudzineviciute was the keynote speaker at a gender equality conference on International Women's Day.

Taking place on March 8, the event in Lithuanian capital Vilnius discussed how to ensure a level playing field for women in sport.

The event was organised by the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), in cooperation with LTOK, the Nordic Embassies and the Nordic Council of Ministers Office.

Aims included raising awareness of the challenges women encounter in sport, while the importance of listening to the needs of female athletes was also stressed.

Suggestions were heard for the promotion of a more inclusive and diverse sports culture.

Gudzineviciute, who also chairs the European Olympic Committees' (EOC) Gender Equality in Sport Commission, was joined by representatives from Lithuania's sporting bodies, athletes and members of the press.

In the battle for sporting gender equality, Lithuania has been highlighted as a positive example.

It is one of only two countries in Europe which has a woman as President of the National Olympic Committee, with the other being Bulgaria which is led by former high jumper Stefka Kostadinova.

Gudzineviciute, a shooter who won a trap gold medal at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, will share the findings from the event with the EOC Commission in Azerbaijan's capital Baku on March 15.
