The organisation was a charter member of WFDF when it was founded in 1985 and rejoined in January 2014 following a brief departure.

Now, they have again left the body after ruling that its interests could be best served away from the WFDF.

"It is unfortunate that we find ourselves in this position once again," said PDGA Executive Director, Brian Graham.

"However, it became apparent over time that the PDGA could best accomplish its goals and continue the exponential growth of disc golf internationally, outside of a formal relationship with WFDF.

"With that being said, we remain supportive of WFDF's overall mission and we wish them nothing but the best of luck moving forward."

The WFDF, which said it was "disappointed" by the decision, is now re-organising its Disc Golf Committee.

Both organisations have confirmed that this year's World Team Championships in Vancouver will go ahead as planned between August 18 and 21.

Teams from Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Iceland, Japan, South Korea, Latvia, New Zealand and United States are among those expected to compete.
