The 39-year-old, a double Olympic bronze medallist, will work with Germany's head coach Werner Schuster, as reported by Norwegian newspaper Adresseavisen.

News of his move was also repeated on the International Ski Federation (FIS) website, with Ljøkelsøy tipped to play a role in German ski flying preparations.

"My job will be to do what I can do best," he told Adresseavisen.

"I think they are especially looking for a some help when it comes to ski flying.

"There the Germans haven't been very good for a long time.

"The goal is that more German athletes will fly over 230 metres."

 Ljøkelsøy is well suited to ski flying, having won the individual world title in the discipline twice.

"It will be a bit strange to cheer for Germany in ski jumping, but of course you want the people you work with to be successful," he said.

The Norwegian won both his Olympic bronzes at Turin 2006, in the individual normal hill and team large hill events.

He also won four World Championship medals and finished second overall in the FIS World Cup twice.

Norway's head coach Alexander Stoeckl said to NTB: "It's an interesting task and I hope Roar will gain a lot of experience and return to Norway sometime in the future.

"It's always good to learn from other systems."
