Mola has proved the star of the opening two legs of the series, claiming victory in the opening race in Abu Dhabi for the second year in a row, before triumphing in Gold Coast earlier this month.

He was forced to hold off the challenge of Britain’s Jonathan Brownlee and fellow Spaniard Fernando Alarza in the closing stages of the run in the Australia leg of the series, with the duo expected to provide a threat again in South Africa.

Brownlee will be lining up in South Africa for the first time since winning the silver medal there in 2014, having opted to skip last year’s event, won by his brother Alistair.

Alistair will be hoping to replicate his performance on the one-lap swim, five-lap bike and two-lap run course, as he looks to step up his preparations for the defence of Olympic title at Rio 2016.

The sprint distance race will see Olympic qualification points up for grabs in both the men’s and women’s races.

Bermuda’s Flora Duffy will begin as one of the favourites to claim a podium finish in the women’s event, having moved up to second place in overall series standings.

Jodie Stimpson, Non Stanford and Vicky Holland will head a three-pronged attack from the British team, with the latter duo making their season debuts.

Stimpson will hope to put the disappointment of missing out on a place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, with Helen Jenkins claiming the final spot in the British team after winning in Gold Coast.

South Africa’s Mari Rabie will hope to make an impact in front of her home fans, with her training partner, Sweden’s Olympic silver medallist Lisa Norden, also among the likely contenders to challenge for the race win.
