The British team, consisting of Patrick Huston, Larry Godfrey and Kieran Slater, headed into the competition as the ninth seeded nation but sprung a surprise when they overcame the United States in the quarter-finals.

A run of seven straight 10s by the British team saw them overcome the top seeded team 5-1, to advance to the last four.

They proved unable to overcome their South Korean opposition to book a place in the final, with the Asian nation’s youthful line-up of Park Seong Cheol, Lee Seongjun and Han Jaeyeop triumphing 5-3.

Korea will now face the challenge of The Netherlands, who came from 4-0 down to beat India 5-4, after scoring a maximum 30 in a shoot-off.

“We’ve worked all year, so we’ll do just a short practice to be away from the hotel tomorrow,” said Sjef van den Berg after the Dutch team’s narrow escape.

“We shoot arrows, but we don’t really practice, we’ve done all that.

“We just need the competition to be really sharp.”

While they fell narrowly short in the men’s competition, India will contest the women’s recurve final after they defeated top seeds Germany 5-3 in their last four encounter.

They will meet Chinese Taipei, who secured an impressive 6-0 victory over Russia.

The closest semi-final contest in the women’s compound event came in the clash between Turkey and Russia, with the latter having surprisingly beaten the top seeded South Koreans in an earlier round.

Russia booked their place in the final after earning a 224-223 victory over their Turkish rivals, with the team now due to meet Denmark, who emerged as 233-229 winners against Germany.

The United States justified their status as favourites in the men’s compound event, after they claimed a 232-231 win over Australia in their semi-final tie.

They will take on an Iranian team who were buoyed after a 231-230 win over France.

The compound individual and team events are due to take place tomorrow, with the recurve competitions bringing the World Cup to a close on May 1.
