Spain, Finland and the United States all reached the quarter-finals of the women's 2016 International Roller Sports Federation (FIRS) Inline Hockey World Championships with 100 per cent records as the group stage of the event came to a close.

The Spanish were the big winners today, inflicting a crushing 11-0 defeat on India in the morning session at the Hodegart Arena Asiago in Italy.

The comprehensive win over the hapless Indians saw Spain qualify for the last eight at the summit of Pool C, with Namibia claiming the second spot after they beat Britain 6-1.

Finland also enjoyed their third straight success in the group phase of the tournament, overcoming hosts Italy 3-2 in a hard-fought Pool D clash.

The result was enough to send them through as group winners, with the Italians joining them in the next round despite the defeat.

The United States were in ruthless form, dominating their Pool B match with Australia from start to finish on their way to a confident 7-0 victory.

France recovered from defeat yesterday to also progress to the quarter-finals as they beat New Zealand 3-0.

Canada were denied the opportunity of booking their place in the last eight with a 100 per cent record as they were held to a 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic in the final game of the group phase.

The draw in Pool A came after the Czechs had ousted Switzerland 4-2 in the morning session.

Both Canada and the Czech Republic breezed through the group stage with three wins and one draw apiece, with the North Americans finishing top due to their superior goal difference.

In tomorrow’s quarter-finals, Spain take on France before the United States go up against Namibia.

Finland then entertain the Czech Republic and Canada clash with the host nation.
