Athletics legend Wilson Kipketer was the guest of honour at an event organised by The Olympic Committee of Israel (OCI).

The Kenyan-born runner, who went on to represent Denmark, was on hand at the Olympic Studies Centre at the Academic College of Wingate Institute.

The 43-year-old gave a lecture which covered his personal view of the Olympic Games, and their influence on his life.

Igal Carmi, the President of the OCI, opened the event which was held as part of Olympic Day celebrations.

Kipketer held the 800 metres world record for 13 years, when his time of 1min 41.11sec was eclipsed by Kenyan David Rudisha's 1:41.09 in 2010.

He also won three World Championship gold medals in the 800m, in Gothenburg in 1995, Athens in 1997 and Seville in 1999.

In 2002 he won the European title in Munich for Denmark.

Despite this success, he never won an Olympic gold medal and had to settle for a silver and a bronze.

He was second behind Germany's Nils Schumann at the Sydney 2000 Games and was third four years later in Athens.

The International Olympic Committee barred him from competing at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics as he was not yet a full Danish citizen.
