Olympic gold medal-winning snowboarder Jamie Anderson has been honoured with an Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award (ESPY).

The 25-year-old American, who won the Olympic slopestyle title at Sochi 2014, was named as the best female action sports athlete.

ABC, a television channel in the United States, currently hands out the awards which used to be presented by ESPN.

"I'm so thankful on so many levels," said Anderson on Instagram.

"I wouldn't be where I am today without the love, support and encouragement of my family, friends and of course my sponsors.

"Thanks for making my dreams a reality."

Anderson, who also boasts four Winter X-Games gold medals, claimed the International Ski Federation (FIS) overall freestyle and slopestyle World Cup titles during the 2015-16 season.

She won two out of the four slopestyle World Cups held, in Cardona in New Zealand in August and then in Bokwang in South Korea in February.

The latter victory was at an event doubling as a test for the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.
