The Norwegian Ski Association has invited 76 junior cross-country skiers from nine nations to the country, for a camp aimed at "inspiring" them ahead of a future career in the sport.

The training camp, entitled "Statoil’s International Talent Camp in cross-country skiing" is taking place from today until August 17 at Sjusjøen, around 30 minutes from 1994 Winter Olympic host Lillehammer.

Athletes from Austria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Italy, South Korea, Lithuania, Slovenia, United States, Great Britain and Norway will participate at the camp this year.

During the busy week, the young athletes will participate in several training sessions each day including a mud race, a roller ski race, mountain hikes and uphill running, as well as tests for strength, flexibility and speed.

There are also motivational and theoretical sessions led by some of Norway’s best cross-country skiers and trainers.

Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen and Sondre Turvoll Fossli, from the Norwegian National team, will take part in some sessions where they will give practical tips and share their own experiences with the youngsters.

The international talent camp in cross-country skiing is a part of the talent development programme “Heroes of Tomorrow”, which is collaboration between The Norwegian Ski Association and Statoil.
