Seen as one of the most decorated officials in the sport, Burgess will be tasked with providing valuable assistance to the organisation to help develop, support and encourage officials across the country.

Burgess, who was named Performance Official of the Year at the Sports Official UK Awards last year, comes into the role having worked in education for the past 14 years, serving as a PE teacher and more recently as assistant vice-principal.

He refereed the final of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, where New Zealand overcame arch-rivals Australia 66-64, before he performed the same job at the 2014 event in Glasgow as the Australians got their revenge on their Oceanian counterparts with a 58-40 win.

Burgess has also officiated at two World Cup finals, in 2011 and 2015, and says he can't wait to take up his new position within England Netball.

"I'm delighted to announce I am the new England Netball officiating manager," he said on Twitter.

"I am so looking forward to ensuring as many of you can experience the fantastic things throughout my journey in officiating.

"[I am] looking forward to starting."

The news came ahead of England Netball announcing tickets for the home leg of the Netball Quad Series will go on sale on September 2.

The English side are due to take on New Zealand in Liverpool on February 2 before they clash with reigning World Cup champions Australia at Wembley Arena on February 5.

South Africa are scheduled to take on the World Cup runners up at Wembley Arena on the same day.

The inaugural tournament begins next weekend with the first round of fixtures in at the Vector Arena in Auckland, with the hosts entertaining England and South Africa facing Australia.
