According to Yonhap, another individual, a former male swimmer, has already been investigated on similar charges by police.

The swimmer reportedly stated that he committed the offence with the assistance of a member of the current national team.

Police have seized the laptop of the new suspect to determine whether they can uncover any further evidence to prove the allegations.

No videos have been discovered online but the investigation remains ongoing, Yonhap said.

It has been claimed that the new suspect has denied the allegations which have come to light.

Police are reportedly looking to question the suspect in the next couple of days.

Other potential suspects could still come to light as the police investigation develops regarding the case.

If proven it will be the latest blow suffered in South Korean swimming, with prosecutors arresting two Korea Swimming Federation (KSF) Board members earlier this year on charges of siphoning off money allocated to the organisation's budget.

Prosecutors had raided the KSF's branch office in South Jeolla Province in March, and seized computer hard drives and documents.

The KSF had been suspected of forging various documents, as well as taking funds that were meant to be awarded to athletes to help with their training expenses.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism halted funding to the KSF as a result.
