A first-ever "Super Series" competition consisting of big air events is set to be held during the upcoming International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard World Cup season, it has announced.

The aim of the competition is to establish the best rider after three World Cup stops with Milan, Mönchengladbach and Quebec City all due to play host.

Milan is set to stage an event on November 12, followed by Mönchengladbach on December 3 and Quebec City on February 10 and 11.

FIS Freestyle Ski Coordinator Joseph Fitzgerald visited Milan in July to inspect the progress of the Italian city, which is also scheduled to stage a big air World Cup in freestyle skiing on November 11.

In Milan, action will take place on the same site that hosted Expo Milano 2015.

The trip was one of many made by the FIS to hosts of its events in the new season.

Officials also visited Mönchengladbach ahead of the city's debut as a freestyle World Cup host this year.

The German city is also due to stage a big air event in freestyle skiing on December 2.

More than 130 athletes from 20 countries are expected in Mönchengladbach, and will grace a record 49 metre-high structure.

Snowboarding big air will make its Olympic debut in Pyeongchang in 2018.

The municipality in the district of Surselva is due to stage to a World Cup in halfpipe and slopestyle from January 16 to 21, 2017.
