The Netherlands will have the chance to defend their European Korfball Championships title after they advanced to the final with a comprehensive win over Portugal in the Dutch city of Dordrecht.

The hosts have looked ominous all week and continued their dominance at this event at Sportboulevard with yet another thumping win this evening.

Seven goals from Marjolijn Kroon and a further six by Laurens Leeuwenhoek provided the platform the champions to control the match.

After the first quarter the hosts led 7-4 but their dominance then began to show in the second period as they went on to lead 15-5 at half time.

The Dutch team added a further eight in the third quarter before sealing their place in the final with a final score of 31-10.

In the other semi-final, Belgium comfortably defeated Catalonia 26-13 to advance to the gold medal match on Sunday (October 30).

Eight goals from Nick Janssens and six from his teammate Jesse de Bremaeker put the Belgians totally in control of the contest with their opponents never able to mount any sort of comeback.

In today’s other matches England defeated Turkey 25-7.

Seven goals from Otto Fabius and five from David Brooks helped them somewhat recover from the disappointment of yesterday’s quarter-final defeat to the Portuguese.

The Czech Republic also won after failing to reach the semi-finals, beating Russia 25-9.

Completing the day’s action, Germany overcame Poland 23-11.
