Andy Yohe has been named again as captain of the United States national sledge hockey team for the upcoming 2016-2017 season.

The 38-year-old skippered the American team to the gold medal at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi in Russia.

This is the third time in the past seven seasons that Yohe will lead his country.

As well as the gold medal winning team in 2014, Yohe also led the team to their first-ever International Paralympic Committee (IPC) sledge hockey World Championship title in 2009 in the Czech city of Ostrava.

During his career Yohe has been a part of five championship-winning squads, including the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2010 Japan Para ice sledge hockey Championship in Nagano City.

The 2009 World Sled Hockey Challenge in Charlottetown in Canada, as well as the two in which he was captain, complete his international medal tally.

He was also a member of the US team that won the Paralympic bronze medals at Turin 2006.

In his six previous seasons with the team, Yohe has scored 18 points in 41 appearances.

Yohe was a competitive roller hockey player for the Bettendorf (Iowa) Young Guns.

In September 1994, he lost both legs in an accident, in which he was run over while trying to jump onto a train.

Nikko Landeros and Josh Pauls have been named as alternate captains.

"Coach Sauer and I are thrilled to announced Andy Yohe as our captain, along with Nikko Landeros and Josh Pauls as our alternates,”" said Dan Brennan, general manager of the US sledge hockey team and USA Hockey's director of inline and sledge hockey.

"All three players bring a tremendous blend of experience, skill and grit to set a positive example for this year's team."

Landeros is beginning his eighth season as a defence man and third consecutive campaign as an alternate captain while Pauls is on the cusp of his ninth season with the US Team after making his debut in the 2008-2009 season.
