British curling talent is almost exclusively found north of the border but it was the English who claimed a shock 6-2 win during the second batch of round-robin matches.

Skipped by Rosemary Lenton, England picked up a shot in the first two ends before Scotland, led by Winter Paralympian Aileen Neilson, drew level with singles in ends three and four.

England would then click into gear and score with a stone in all four remaining ends to complete their victory.

The competition at the Finnish venue is an important one as it offers two spots at the 2017 World Wheelchair Curling Championships.

These will serve as the final qualification event for the 2018 Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang in South Korea. 

Other results today included a 14-1 success for hosts Finland over Chinese Taipei.

Japan thrashed Denmark 12-0, with Estonia 9-6 winners over the Czech Republic.

Poland beat Latvia 8-2 with Sweden seeing off Italy by the same scoreline.

There were emphatic wins for Slovakia and Slovenia, with the former thumping Turkey 12-0 and the latter easing past Israel 11-3.
