Peter Hellstrom leads a Swedish 1-2 in the men's draw after the second qualification block at the World Bowling Singles Championships in Doha.

Hellstrom finished on an average of 235.75 after eight of the 12 qualifying games at the Qatar Bowling Centre.

His score of 279 in the penultimate game of the block was his highest of the tournament so far in a score of 1,886.

Nearest rival and team-mate Martin Paulsson lies 13 behind after accruing an average of 229.75 across both blocks. 

John Janawicz lies in third place with a 223.88 average score of 1,791 despite dropping slightly from his opening day form.

Mats Maggi of Belgium lies third on 1,772 with Annop Arromsaranon of Thailand fifth, on 1,765, and Frank Drevenstedt of Germany sixth, on 1,754.

Birgit Poppler of Germany continues to lead after two blocks of the corresponding women's event.

The 30-year-old European champion has scored a huge 1,832 points with an average of 229.

New Hui Fen of Singapore lies in a distant second place on 1,758, 74 behind.

Li Jane Sin of Malaysia has scored 1,750 for third, just four points clear of Rocio Restrepo of Colombia.

A final day of qualification is due to take place tomorrow in both male and female competitions.
