Defending champions United States earned an overtime victory against Canada to complete the round robin phase of the World Sledge Hockey Challenge with a 100 per cent record at the MacLauchlan Arena in Charlottetown.

Both nations headed into the match with two wins to their credit, but knew a third would give them a favourable semi-final draw.

The host nation would take the lead in the match, with Tyler McGregor ensuring Canada would end the first period narrowly in front of their rivals.

Declan Farmer dragged the United States level in the second and the prospect over overtime became a reality when neither side could edge ahead in the third period of the contest.

Farmer would ultimately prove the difference between the teams, scoring a minute into overtime to earn his team victory.

The result saw the United States finish top of the standings and set up a clash with South Korea in the semi-finals.

It followed the Asian nation suffering their third consecutive defeat of the competition, with Norway proving the beneficiaries.

Morten Værnes and Loyd Remi Solberg scored in the first and second periods respectively to give Norway control of the match.

A strike from Woo-Chul Park briefly raised South Korean hopes of a comeback in the third period, but they were extinguished when Emil Sørheim restored Norway’s two goal advantage to seal a 3-1 victory.

Norway will now meet second placed Canada in the semi-finals tomorrow.
