Cure would finish second in the scratch, tempo and elimination race disciplines, before controlling the points race to win with 144 points.

New Zealand’s Racquel Sheath and Holly Edmondston would complete the podium positions by ending on 116 and 113 points, respectively.

"I was a bit unsure as to how I would go with my big break after the Rio Olympic Games, but I think I really surprised myself out here,” said Cure.

"I am happy with how I raced tactically, I made a few mistakes, but it is all a learning experience and I will take it one step at a time."

“I am really happy with the change in the format, when it changed, something triggered in my mind and I am really excited with what the future may hold.

“I am aiming for Tokyo in the omnium.”

The men’s event saw New Zealand’s Aaron Gate emerge as the victor, with the 2013 world champion finishing on 189 points.

He would end 47 points clear of his team-mate Regan Gough, while Australia’s Sam Welsford earned the bronze medal by scoring 126.

Australia’s Jade Haines won the women’s under 19 omnium title, while her compatriot Tyler Lindorff won the men’s individual pursuit in the same age group.

The men’s and women’s under-19 sprint titles were won by Kye Bonser and Brooklyn Vonderwall respectively.

New Zealand’s Sam Webster would earn the elite men’s crown, as he defeated his team-mate Ed Edward Dawkins.

Matthew Glaetzer prevented an all Kiwi podium, with the Australia winning the bronze medal ride off against Ethan Mitchell.
