The United States came from behind to overcome hosts Canada in Charlottetown and earn a third straight World Sledge Hockey Challenge title.

The host nation made the breakthrough at the MacLauchlan Arena, with Liam Hickey scoring from a rebound to secure a 1-0 lead after the first period.

It put Canada on track to gain revenge against the American team, who had emerged as overtime victors in their round robin meeting.

Quickfire goals from Kevin McKee and Paul Schaus saw the American side turn the match around, with a further strike from Declan Farmer and brace by Brody Roybal seeing the defending champions pull away.

A powerplay goal by Brad Bowden had kept Canada’s faint hopes alive, but a scoreless third period saw the US emerge as 5-2 winners.

The result ensured a third consecutive gold for the US at the four-team tournament and a fifth in total.

Norway would complete the podium positions after coming through a tightly contested bronze medal match against South Korea.

Seung-Hwan Jung scored the opening goal of the contest to put South Korea on course for a first win of the competition.

It would not prove forthcoming, with Magnus Bøgle and Morten Værnes finding the net for Norway in the second period to give them a 2-1 victory.
