For the first time, the Slovenian trio, Peter, Domen and Cene, are set to participate in the same event as they and other athletes come to the resort in Engelberg for the competition, which runs until Sunday (December 18).

It will also mark the first time three brothers have taken part in the same leg of a World Cup competition.

Current title holder Peter, the eldest brother at 24-years-old, and Domen, the youngest at 17, have both appeared on the circuit already this season, with the latter topping the rankings after three wins.

However, it will be 20-year-old Cene’s maiden appearance in this year’s competition as he has been recovering from an injury.

He did make a comeback last week though and recorded two wins and second place finish in the Continental Cup contest in Vikersund, Norway.

The historic event for the World Cup comes in the same week that Peter was named Slovenia’s Athlete of the Year for a fourth consecutive year.

With 266 votes, he finished in front of sailor Vasilij Zbogar and motocross racer Tim Gajser, who finished second and third respectively.

Tina Trstenjak, women’s 63kg taekwondo gold medallist at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, claimed the Female Athlete of the Year and the Slovenian ice hockey team won the Best Team category.

Qualification rounds in Engelberg start tomorrow before two rounds of jumping take place on Saturday and Sunday.

Last year, Peter, the defending World Cup champion, won both legs at the resort.
