World Para Snowboard has confirmed schedule changes to three competitions, including a World Cup event, as a result of unpredictable weather conditions.

The World Cup competition in La Molina in Spain was initially scheduled to begin on January 16, but will now get underway on February 14.

A Europa Cup competition scheduled for Les Angles in France on January 13 has also been postponed, with new dates to be announced shortly.

Finally, two snowboard cross races in Sierra-at-Tahoe in the United States have been upgraded from North American Cups to World Cup level.

The events will take place on January 26 and 27.

This offers athletes the chance to compete at a higher level before the 2017 World Para Snowboard Championships, which are due to take place in Big White in Canada from February 1.

A North American Cup race in snowboard-cross will, however, still take place on January 25.

Weather conditions, including a lack of snow and high winds, often play havoc with the winter sport schedule.

"The weather conditions in Europe have unfortunately meant we have had to make some changes to the schedule for this season, but I am grateful to all organisers for their cooperation in finding a solution," said Dimitrije Lazarovski, the head of World Para Snow Sports.

"We have, for example, been able to replace the last World Cup races ahead of Big White 2017 in La Molina with competitions in Sierra-at-Tahoe.

"I am confident that we have some excellent racing ahead of the World Championships."

The Big White 2017 World Para snowboard Championships will feature around 80 competitors from 25 countries between February 1 and 8.
