Max Parrot led a Canadian clean sweep to claim his first slopestyle victory of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard Freestyle World Cup season in Laax in Switzerland.

Parrot, a three-time Winter X Games gold medallist, finished at the top of the podium thanks to an impressive score of 91.58 points.

His total proved enough to beat compatriot Mark McMorris, who won the bronze medal in slopestyle at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games, as he recorded a total of 88.96.

Tyler Nicholson completed the Canadian dominance as he took third on 85.51.

The result saw Parrot, who was third after qualifying, cut the deficit to current overall Snowboard Freestyle World Cup leader Seppe Smits of Belgium to 130 points.

Smits, who finished a disappointing 18th with a score of 55.25, has 1,930, with Parrot hot on his heels on 1,800.

The sweep for the Canadians was not unexpected as the country had seven of the 12 snowboarders who reached the final.

In the women’s event, Enni Rukajärvi of Finland outscored the rest of the field to take victory with a score of 84.83.

The Sochi 2014 silver medallist ousted Austria’s Anna Gasser, the runaway overall World Cup leader, to secure a well-deserved triumph.

The 26-year-old, world champion in 2011, had qualified in top spot and ensured she converted that performance into victory with another superb display.

Gasser was given 83.71, while American Jamie Anderson did enough for third on 81.50.

The Austrian, who won World Championships silver in slopestyle last year on home soil in Kreischberg, sits at the summit of the standings on 3,800.

Britain’s Katie Ormerod is second on 3,110, with the two locked in a fierce battle for the overall title.

The event in Laax concludes tomorrow with the men’s and women’s halfpipe finals.
