The mascot design competition for the 2017 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships and World Para-Athletics Championships in London has been launched.

The BBC’s Blue Peter television programme are asking children aged from six to 15 years old to submit a design for each Championship by February 10.

The competition judging panel includes London 2012 Olympic heptathlon champion Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill and two-time Paralympic gold medal-winning sprinter Richard Whitehead.

Once chosen, the winner will see their designs come to life and they will also be invited onto Blue Peter to unveil their winning entry.

The World Para-Athletics Championships are scheduled for July 14 to 23, while the IAAF World Championships are set to take place from August 4 to 13.

It marks the first time both Championships are hosted in the same city in the same year, with more than 3,000 athletes from more than 200 nations competing over 20 days of action at the Olympic Stadium in London.

More than one million ticket applications were entered into the ballot.

All available tickets are on sale now here, from £10 ($12.48/€11.61) for adults and £5 ($6.24/€5.81) for children.

It was claimed last month that the 2017 IAAF World Championships are set to become the best attended in the history of the event.
