Action in the International Ski Federation (FIS) Women’s Ski Jumping World Cup returns to Europe after two stages in Japan – where home favourite Sara Takanashi stuttered on the hills.

The 20-year-old could only manage a best finish of second in two of the four competitionsin Sapporo and Zao during a season where she has dominated proceedings as the jumpers head to Rasnov in Romania tomorrow.

Takanashi, the defending World Cup champion, had to watch her team-mate Yuki Ito claim three wins and Norway’s Maren Lundby top the podium in the other, in Sapporo.

Takanashi still remains on top of the leaderboard on 815 points, 83 in front of Ito, with Lundby further back on 517.

Last year, warm weather forced the stage in Rasnov to be cancelled.

In the 2014-2015 season, Takanashi topped the podium on the second day of competition after Austria’s Daniela Iraschko-Stolz won 24 hours earlier on her way to the World Cup title.
