Obersaxen in Switzerland has today been confirmed as the 2019 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships host.

The announcement made by World Para Alpine Skiing comes after the completion of the 2017 edition of the Championships in Tarvisio, Italy, yesterday.

It will be the first major competition for skiers after the 2018 Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang.

"I am confident they [Obersaxen] will host a great event to follow the Worlds in Tarvisio, which has attracted a record number of media, hundreds of local spectators and has seen the world’s best skiers put in some stunning performances," said Dimitrije Lazarovski, head of World Para Snow Sports.

"My thanks go to the organisers for their work so far and we look forward to raising the bar once again in Switzerland."

Around 100 skiers took part in Tarvisio and it is expected more than 130 from 30 countries will feature in Obersaxen.

A Local Organising Committee will now be formed after confirmation of the hosting rights going to the Swiss resort with the Championships scheduled to take place in March of that year.

It is also expected that a World Cup event will take place at the venue next year to help preparations for the competition.
