Competition is set to start at the 2017 World Para Snowboard Championships in Canada tomorrow.

The event is being held at the Big White resort and will see around 80 athletes from 25 countries taking part in the second edition of the competition with 10 medal events on the cards.

It will also be acting as the last major competition before the 2018 Winter Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang.

Among the defending champions who will be in Big White include Dutch snowboarder Chris Vos who picked up two golds in 2015 when the competition was held in La Molina, Spain.

He will be looking to retain his banked slalom and snowboard-cross titles in the SB-LL1 category.

Another Dutch boarder who will be aiming to retain two titles is Bibian Mentel-Spee as she heads into the women’s SB-LL2 banked slalom and snowboard-cross events.

In the women’s SB-LL1, France’s Cecile Hernandez-Cervellon will be back to defend her banked slalom gold while the United States’ Brenna Huckaby will seek to win the snowboard-cross title again.

Finland’s Matti Suur-Hamari will be looking to win the men’s SB-LL2 snowboard-cross with strong competition from the US trio Evan Strong, Mike Shea and Keith Gabel, who completed a clean sweep of medals at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi.

In the men’s SB-UL category, Austrian Patrick Mayrhofer enters as the defending banked slalom champion and Italy’s Manuel Pozzerle is looking to win the snowboard-cross event for the second consecutive time.

The competitions will be split between tomorrow, where the snowboard-cross events will take place, and Tuesday (February 7) when the banked slalom medals will be fought for.
