Olympic champion Eva Samkova of the Czech Republic topped qualification at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard Cross World Cup in Feldberg.

The 23-year-old already boasts a World Cup win this season, in Solitude in the United States, and dealt best with adverse weather conditions at the German venue.

Fresh snow made riding difficult but Samkova clocked the best time trial mark of 40.92sec.

Italy's Michela Moioli, American Lindsey Jacobellis and Australia's current World Cup leader Belle Brockhoff were also among the qualifiers after one run.

However, France's Olympic bronze medallist Chloe Trespeuch was among those to fail to qualify.

The top ranked duo of the World Cup standings, Alessandro Haemmerle of Austria and Omar Visintin of Italy, had to go into the second qualification run in order to secure their places through.

Finals will take place both tomorrow and Sunday (February 12).

In ski cross action, Canada's Kevin Drury and Marielle Thompson topped the respective men's and women's qualification standings in Idre Fjall in Sweden.

As with the snowboard cross, two days of finals will begin tomorrow.
