September 8 - Alpine Canada have named Max Gartner as its new President, it was announced today.

Gartner has been with Alpine Canada in a number of capacities for 20 years and will now oversee the day-to-day business operations of Alpine Canada as the team looks ahead to the World Cup season, the FIS Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen next February, and the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.

"Canada's ski teams have been steadily building momentum since 2003, when Max took over responsibilities," said previous President Gary Allan, who takes over as chairman of the board from Reid Drury .

The Austrian-born Gartner, 51, guided wife Kerrin Lee-Gartner to Canada’s last Olympic gold medal in 1992.

Canadian skiers failed to win a medal at this year's Olympics in Vancouver - mainly due to injuries to its top names - but are still enjoying a golden period.

"The [Canadian Alpine Ski Teams] have just finished their most successful Olympic cycle ever, with three World Championship medals and 10 World Cup wins," Allen.

"With Max's passion, leadership and expertise, the organisation will remain focused on securing the resources required to continue developing ski racing champions."
