Hassanzada became the first refugee Para-taekwondo athlete to compete at an international competition under the flag of the THF last year.

The Afghan-born athlete lost his arm at the age of eight, when his house was bombed, before his family fled to Iran.

He travelled to Austria at the age of 20, where the taekwondo athlete joined the Special Needs Team from the Rapid Vienna Football Club.

After his talent was spotted, Hassanzada began receiving taekwondo coaching and has since received support from the THF.

Hassanzada is now set to take part in the African Para Taekwondo Open, after registering for the event in April.

The event in Rwanda's capital Kigali will be the first G4/G2 event to be held this year, with competitions taking place in the Kyorugi K40 classes.

All athletes and officials looking to participate in the event must have an approved World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) global licence.

Hassanzada will hope to make an impression at the event as the athlete seeks to continue his development.

The Austria-based competitor has set his sights on competing at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, where the sport will make its debut at the Games.

The THF aims to teach the sport and related educational programmes to refugees and displaced persons worldwide.

Projects have been set up in Jordan, Turkey and Nepal with plans for Rwanda, Ethiopia and Colombia.
